Origins
Petaluma has potential to be a great place to get around without a car -- mild weather, gentle terrain, and families with active lifestyles. Our town has created ambitious plans … and made some noteworthy progress. But we were still left with a patchwork of safe routes, when we needed a seamless network!
Safe Streets Petaluma was founded in 2022 to build that network by rallying public support for investments in complete streets. We are an all-volunteer coalition of community leaders, neighborhood groups, businesses, and other community members who want action! In 2025, we became a project of Rebuilding Together Petaluma, who serves as our 501c3 non-profit fiscal agent.
In our first year, thanks to the advocacy of our members, the Petaluma City Council adopted our Policy Platform when it voted unanimously to make “Safe and Complete Streets” one of its Top Ten Goals and Priorities for fiscal year 2022/23. Safe Streets has remained a top priority.
Some of Our Accomplishments

We created this “Circle Garden” to beautify a new roundabout.
-

We persuaded the City to put bike lanes back in the D Street Traffic Calming Pilot Project.
