Safe Routes to Schools

Winter 2023 UPDATE

In response to advocacy and organizing by Safe Streets Petaluma, Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition and others, the City of Petaluma and several Petaluma School Districts have created the SR2S Task Force. They meet monthly and are drilling down on specific traffic calming improvements around Petaluma's schools.

Safe Routes to Schools (SR2S)

Our goal is to expand the long-running SR2S program to include safe streets "infrastructure", starting with "pop-up" (short-term) installation of barrier-protected bike lanes, vehicle restrictions, safety circles, street trees and art. We will blend these City-approved installations with the SR2S education and motivation events, transforming "walk and roll" to school days from occasional events to everyday behavior for the majority of students and parents.
